Baked Falafel

Oh ok well I guess if you’ve seen the pitta then we should just add in some falafel and make a proper treat of these beauties.

I usually fry falafel so they are much darker in colour and crispier but thought I’d try out the baked method this time and well let’s just say no flavour was compromised!

Prep Time

10 mins

+ 30 mins rest

Cook Time

30 mins

Serves

4

Ingredients

1 Tin Chickpeas (drained)
1 Stick Celery
30g Fresh Coriander
1 Green Chilli
½ Tsp Asafoetida Powder
1 Tsp Cumin Powder
½ Tsp Himalayan Salt
¼ Tsp Black Pepper
6 Tbsp Gram Flour
½ Tsp Bicarb Soda

Method

  1. Blend together all ingredients except the gram flour and bicarb soda.
  2. Take the mixture out into a bowl and add in the remaining ingredients, stirring in the gram flour little at a time. You want the consistency to be just thick enough to bind together.
  3. Place in the fridge for 30 mins.
  4. Preheat the oven at 200C.
  5. Form patties and place on greaseproof paper lined oven tray.
  6. Bake for 30 mins turning them over once.
